My obsession with the sky

When I was very young there was a sandbox under a pear tree in our back yard, I use to lay down in the sandbox and look up at the clouds to find familiar shapes, I’d often doze off watching the clouds drift by. I still lay in the grass and look up at the sky, sometimes looking up at the sky tricks my brain and I feel as though the earth drops from beneath me and the sky feels so close I could reach up and touch it. Often it gives me existential dread, realizing space goes on and on.
It’s strange to think that the blue and cloudy sky we see during the day is the same sky that is filled with infinite stars at night. I’m also amazed at how spectacular the sky can be, the many colours, and textures it displays at sunrise and sunset. It feels otherworldly, yet here we are getting to watch the most spectacular work of art known to humankind for free daily.
